As part of efforts to expand the Dialogue with the Visitor, Archeon has decided to develop an audio tour. While many museums already include such tours as part of their visitor experience, the rise of digital media has created a new market for online apps that provide a similar function. The added value of this approach is that the use of such a tour is no longer limited to theitself. The download statistics of the Archeon tour shows that it has been downloaded from all over the world. Not only in the vicinity of the site (which accounts for roughly half the downloads), but from different places people interested in history have listened to the story of the site. Of course, this will hopefully lead to them physically visiting the site at some point in future.
International cooperation has proved invaluable in generating the texts for the audio tour, in both Dutch and English. Since theitself is easy to use, we can heartily recommend all AOAM to adopt it and start providing an added visitor experience to their site.
