Volunteers: presentation by Andy Spencer at the St Fagans conference
During the St Fagans conference, Andy Spencer, of the Ironbridge Institute, spoke about the results of his Europe-wideof volunteer management at .
The presentation was extremely useful in providing an overview of the different ways in which volunteers were used and, perhaps more importantly, the efforts that have to be gone to, in order to:
- recruit volunteers using active methodologies
- generate appropriate opportunities for volunteers
- train volunteers
- evaluate the experience of volunteers
- and also to maintain a volunteer community.
This last point led to discussion of the role of the volunteer manager, and also of appropriate rewards.
The broad overview that Andy presented provides a clear context in which the partner AOAMs in OpenArch can evaluate their own volunteer strategies in future.
