Roeland Paardekooper (EXARC Director)
Clara Masriera i Esquerra (La Ciutadella Ibérica de Calafell)
Number of Participants / Visitors / Audience:
It is not surprising that CECA is one of the most important International Committees, relevant to EXARC. The Committee for Education and Cultural Action (CECA) is one of the oldest and largest International Committees of ICOM. Members are professionals working in different sectors of the museum field or in institutions related to this field, as educators, curators, professors, communication agents or interpreters interested in education and cultural action applied to a particular sort of heritage. We were very happy to meet the CECA Chair in person in Modena. Professor Emma Nardi had come from Rome. Mrs Nardi mentioned several important projects for their members - they could be relevant to many of the EXARC members. Being an ICOM member, one can join an International Committee for free and thus have the benefits of for example CECA. One activitiy of CECA is making a database of their almost 1,000 members with not just a name and address but as well information about special interests or experience. The other important project is their work on promoting best practices in Education and Cultural Action worldwide. More information on both projects is online at

It was a great help to have professor Nardi visiting us in person, now both EXARC and CECA have a better understanding of each other and where we could cooperate - not just between Board members, but especially between the members themselves. ICOM cooperation is getting a face!
