Mailing almost 200 museums
Over the summer 2013, we approached 195in 23 European countries. This was done in personalized emails, in their native language and with details about their exact . The original idea was to send all of them a general newsletter, but we decided that personal emails would work much better, even if this was more work.
We told them they were represented online in our database at www.openarchaeology.info/venues and asked them to correct the information where necessary or add what was missing. The translations were made by senior EXARC members, native speakers and we got quite a few responses ranging from “our museum is dead” to “can we become part of EXARC”. The Archaeological Open-Air Museums are now better aware they are part of a large group and therefore easier able to get in touch with each other.
