Green issues: presenting the construction of a new gallery at St Fagans, during the St Fagans Conference

St Fagans is currently building a new gallery which, when completed, will achieve a BREEAM rating of "excellent" and which will contain at least 10% recycled materials. It will also be energy efficient and the museum aspires to achieving an "A" Energy Performance Certificate. Throughout construction, the HLF carbon footprinter tool will also be used to assess the wider carbon impacts of the development.
This work has relevance to all organisations developing sustainable, energy efficient buildings, so the opportunity was taken at the St Fagans Conference to ensure that all partners had the chance to see the building work for themselves, talk to the construction manager and consider the implication of the issues involved in the construction for their own sites.
