Ever since it was oficially opened as an AOAM, Viminacium had organized site visits. Our main goal was to attract visitors by telling them that they would be guided by archaeologists who actually excavate the site. This is how Milica, Jelena, Emilija and Ilija were involved in this activity. Since all of us speak English, we were given the task of guiding foreign visitors, usually visiting the site on ship. Ships arrive to Viminacium every year, between March and November. During winter, the Danube is not navigable for cruisers.
The routine was to meet the guests at the docks and take them to the site by bus.
We visited all of the Viminacium attractions: Mausoleum, the Roman baths, Porta Praetoria, amphitheatre and the Domus. In 2014, the Mammoth park was added to this list.
At the end of each visit, guests had the opportunity to take a break at the Taverna, drink a cup of wine, served in re-made Roman wine glasses and receive a pottery shard with a Latin saying written in Latin and in English as a gift.
Visits usally last between three and four hours. In addition, questionnaires were handed out for visitors to fill out.
