Closing Meeting in Calafell

The last joint activity with the OpenArch partners happened in Calafell (6-9 October) during the closing meeting of the project. The aim of this gatherings was to fine-tune together with the Management Team, the pending actions until the completion of the project in December 2015 and especially the preparation of the final report.

On Wednesday 7 (Day 1), the Mayor of Calafell, Mr Ramon Ferré and the councilor responsible for the Historical Heritage of the Muncipality, Mr Joan Maria Triadó, welcomed the delegates and stressed the importance of OpenArch for La Ciutadella Ibèrica de Calafell as an excellent opportunity for this Archaeological Open-Air Museum (AOAM) to work at a European level.

The morning session had a presentation by the OpenArch Project Manager, Manel Gómez about the European dimension of OpenArch in the partnership and then two seminars revolving around museum management which included a presentation of the upcoming OpenArch product, the manual about management of AOAMs and a seminar about Communication on AOAMs and especifically the progress among partners during OpenArch implementation.

In the afternoon session, face-to-face meetings between the partners and the Management Team were arranged to tackle individual aspects regarding the project development. Also, some partners took the opportunity to discuss about collaborations and even some time to visit La Ciutadella Ibèrica and the Castle of the Holy Cross.

On Day 2, Thursday, the morning session started with the Steering Committee meeting, the main activity of the programme, where the delegates discussed about the progress of the project since St Fagans conference, the forecast of activities and products to come and take the final decisions with an eye in the submission of the final report. The meeting had the presence of the project officer from the Agency who came to Calafell for a monitoring visit.

In the afternoon, the participants had the chance to have a guided tour in Tarragona about The Roman Tarraco, UNESCO World Heritage site. This visit had the support and was possible thanks to the Europe Direct Tarragona office.

On Day 3, Friday, the Management Team met the project officer to inform about the project evolution in person and at La Ciutadella some partners could visit La Ciutadella in occassion of the European Heritage Days in Catalonia 2015 (9-12 October) where students from the University of Exeter were preparing The Dialogue with Science Roadhow as part of a staff exchange thanks to OpenArch cooperation.

-   “Living village” at La Ciutadella Ibèrica (10.00-12.00)
-  Legend of St George at the Castle, represented by a local school (10.00h)
OpenArch Activity:
-  Dialogue with Science Roadshow, demonstrations by students of the University of Exeter at La Ciutadella Ibèrica (10.00h)
