A team of three members of staff from Butser Ancient Farm, long time EXARC member and an example to many others, attended the OpenArch Conference in Wales. EXARC organised the visit following an initiative by St Fagans.
Two of Butser's directors attended the discussion day on management issues in archaeological open-air museums and contributed to the discussions. Over their fourty years of existence, they met with many issues other museums face as well.
On the Craft Fair Butser staff presented bronze casting through the millenia, showing not only the technical features of this ancient technique which also played a role in the Italian Conference of OpenArch but also explaining other participants in the meeting how to overcome health & safety as well as communication issues when working with potentially dangerous activities (casting liquid metal).
