Viminacium visits La Ciutadella Ibèrica de Calafell

Staff Exchange date:
Monday, 17 August, 2015 to Friday, 21 August, 2015
Traveling from:
Goal(s):
From the 18th to the 28th of August 2015, La Ciutadella Ibèrica de Calafell has organized a workshop called "International Summer Work Camp 2015". The intention was to gather young people from all around the work to come to the Archaeological park in Calafell, work and learn from archaeologists and skilled craftsmen and help them out. In the same period, actually from the 18th to the 21st of August 2015, within the OpenArch project, a staff exchange was organized from Viminacium to Calafell. Emilija Nikolić and Milica Tapavički-Ilić have travelled to this workshop to give a lecture about the Archaeological park of Viminacium and to take part at the workshop.
Evaluation:

The visit to Calafell was very interesting and useful for Milica and Emilija. The lecture held about Viminacium was successfull and many young people got interested in this topic. Both Emilija and Milica were exploring all that can be done in the Calafell prehistoric open-air museum: They explored cordage techniques, preparing objects from esparto grass, Milica tried making an Iberian shiled (scuta), while Emilija made mud-bricks and repaired some of the wine trampling facilities.
These activities gave them ideas of how to work with youth and children who visit the Archaeological park of Viminacium. It was interesting to discuss and consider organizing a work camp in Viminacium as well. Since it possesses its own accomodation, there is enough space for all kinds of crafts to be performed, and it would be of use to both youngsters and Viminacium archaeologists to have such workshops done at the site.
Apart from visitng the Ciutadella Ibèrica de Calafell, Emilija and Milica also had a site visit in Tarragona.
