Hunebedcentrum (NL)

Lying on the Hondsrug in Borger, in the North of the Netherlands, the Hunebedcentrum takes you back to prehistoric times and shows you the lives of the first farmers in Drenthe. They constructed impressive monumental tombs and the remains of 54 of them can still be seen, the largest one standing right next to the centre.
It makes you wonder how these early farmers lived, how they experienced joy and grief and how they managed to pile up those massive stones that weigh tons. At the Hunebed Centre you will experience an encounter with this peasant tribe, an encounter that will be sensational.
The Borger Hunebed Centre, situated on a sand ridge (Hondsrug) in the province of Drenthe, brings you back in prehistoric times, when the first peasants settled in Drenthe. It was they who built these impressive stone monuments, whose remnants can still be admired in the Drenthe countryside. 54 still exist, the biggest of which is situated right next to the Centre.
In our museum the story is told of these mysterious megalithic graves and the people that built them. Questions are answered such as: Who built them, how were they built and, most importantly, why did they build them? Many questions still remain unanswered but we try to give you and idea. This site shows you what you can see and experience at the Hunebed Centre.
